The Built Environment Custodian Skills Certificate training programme is designed to multi-skill Custodial Service (Cleaning, Landscape, Pest, Security) workers to enhance their employability and prepare them for Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) Services.

It comprises two skills certificates (Custodial Maintenance and Custodial Checking) which can be taken as standalone certifications and an over-arching Built Environment Custodian Skills Certification on completion of the two courses.

Course Description

Redesign of Soft FM and Environmental Services jobs through multi-skilling and productivity enhancements with a view to create better value and higher paying jobs for attracting more to join the Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) industry

Creation of a new multi-skilled Built Environment Custodian job (SSOC 96261) to serve as a Checker and float team member on a needs basis with a view for career advancement to supervisory level and beyond.

Provision of a Secondary Service with a Primary Service offered through Process Scheduling or Process Parallelling of this add-on or value-add secondary service

Two inclusive pathways for skills upgrading for workers to acquire the multi-skills required.

Learning Outcomes

Trainees will be able to perform value-add custodial checking skills to ‘sight and flag’ building defects and health & safety hazards for early intervention, cost effective repairs and a safer built environment.

Real State & Construction Academy.

Built Environment Custodial work comprises mainly physical operations undertaken in various locations of the building/estate. The entry requirements to reflect the job demands are:

  • Physically fit and not colour blind
  • Able to lift objects weighing a minimum of 15kg
  • English literacy and numeracy up to at least Primary 4 level or ESS Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 3
  • Able to work independently and exercise self-checks of completed tasks.

$576 / $960 nett/trainee (after SSG course fee funding and subject to certain conditions being met – $1840 without funding). Sponsoring employers may also claim absentee payroll of $4.50/training hour.
